Content Guidelines
Last updated: August 21, 2026
Every listing is public and permanently labeled as sponsored. These guidelines apply to your listing text, your logo, and the destination you link to. Paying more does not exempt a listing from them.
What we expect
- Describe a real business, product, project, or creator.
- Use a name you are entitled to use, and a logo you own or are licensed to use.
- Link to a working, secure https:// destination that matches your description.
- Keep the copy honest — no invented statistics, fake endorsements, or imitation of another brand.
- Write in plain language. No hidden characters, direction overrides, or markup.
Prohibited content
Listings in these categories are removed, and the destination domain may be blocked from future placements:
- Fraud, scams, deceptive offers, fake giveaways, and get-rich-quick schemes.
- Illegal goods or services, or anything unlawful in the jurisdictions we serve.
- Adult or sexually explicit content, and any content sexualizing minors.
- Hateful, harassing, or violent content, including content targeting people by protected characteristic.
- Malware, phishing, credential harvesting, cryptojacking, or deceptive downloads.
- Unlicensed gambling, betting, and speculative financial promotions promising guaranteed returns.
- Counterfeit goods, stolen data, and intellectual-property infringement.
- Unapproved pharmaceuticals, miracle cures, and unsupported medical claims.
- Impersonation of a person, company, or public authority.
- Cloaking: showing us one destination and visitors another, or redirecting after publication.
Destination requirements
- Must be a public HTTPS URL. Private, internal, and local network addresses are rejected automatically.
- Must not require a download to see the content.
- Must not redirect to a prohibited destination after publication. We re-check destinations and remove listings that change.
Logos and images
- Square raster images only: PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF, up to 512 KB.
- SVG is not accepted because it can carry executable code.
- No text-heavy banners, no screenshots of other websites, no third-party logos you do not own.
How moderation works
Submissions are screened automatically for prohibited keywords and flagged for human review when a match is found. Administrators can hide a listing, edit clearly inappropriate copy, block a destination domain, or reject a listing outright. Every administrative action is recorded in an audit log with the administrator, the action, and the time.
A listing removed for a violation is not refunded, as described in the Refund Policy.
Reporting a listing
To report a listing, email support@thetopspot.example with the business name, the position on the board, and a short description of the problem. We review reports promptly and act on those that violate these guidelines.
